Our Vision

To establish a unique and high profile market position in the UK with a portfolio of innovative technology-led solutions, backed up by both remote and on the ground support services, enabling organisations of all sizes across a variety of sectors to enhance their sustainability through reducing their waste generation and optimising their on-site waste handling and treatment techniques.

Background

Applied Waste Techniques was launched in mid-2014 with Waste Expert, a unique cloud-based software application designed to help organisations enhance their approach to waste management.

Building on that platform in 2015 we reached agreement with the team at Winnow Solutions to market their system which enables commercial kitchens to reduce the amount of food waste they generate and increase their profitability. From January 2016 onwards we are excited to add Ridan Composters to our ever growing portfolio, a fantastic on-site composting solution for a wide range of hospitality & food businesses and other organisations with on-site catering.

Our overall business philosophy is to develop close and long-standing working relationships with our customers; we are not just about providing a self-service technology solution at arm's length. Linked to our head-office base on the Shropshire/Cheshire border we have a regional focus on the West Midlands, North-West, and Mid to North Wales, although we are happy to work with businesses from across the UK.

We are always interested in hearing from businesses with new and innovative technology-led solutions that can help our customers reduce their waste generation or utilise more effective and efficient techniques to handle and dispose of their waste on-site. Steve Filkin

Managing
Director

With a love of technology and a passion for sustainability and waste management, Steve founded Applied Waste Techniques. Steve is a versatile and accomplished environmental professional with many years varied management and technical experience in both operational and consultancy roles. He has experience in developing integrated waste solutions that balance business considerations with the resolution of multi-faceted environmental problems.

Loves: Anything made by Honda; Taking machinery apart and, on occasion, putting it back together again in working order; Sandwiches; Playing the drums.

Jeremy Andrews

Commercial Development Manager

Jeremy brings more than 15 years B2B sales & marketing experience to our team here at Applied Waste Techniques. During his career he has worked in various industry sectors with a diverse range of businesses. Jeremy drives our overall sales & marketing planning, and the implementation of our strategy and tactics, whilst also taking the lead in managing our relationships with the teams at Winnow Solutions, Ridan, and Cloud Sustainability.

Loves: Travel, especially Africa; Learning to ride his horse (although he seems to spend a lot of time rolling around on the floor!); Tending to his small flock of sheep; Cooking and eating out.

Kristina Dunning

Operations
Manager

Kristina is an avid environmentalist with a strong attention to detail. She is a strong believer that "if you can't measure it, you can't manage it", and excels when working with numbers, metrics and data. She has a background in a range of environmental sectors spanning both the public and private sector.

Loves: Lindy Hop dancing; hiking in the Lake District; Bonsai trees; travelling around south America.

Becky Hodnett

Operations
Executive

Becky is passionate about resource efficiency and sustainability. She is diligent and highly organised, and skilled in data analysis, report writing and legislation interpretation. She is always on the lookout for the latest and greatest news articles, as part of her varied role entails managing our social media.

Loves: Skiing, travelling and roast dinners.
